This applet displays a virtual Sandbox demonstration.

You may get a sense of interacting with a Sandbox by launching a demonstration of a Sandbox in your browser. Since this is a virtual Sandbox, without the hardware, it can not provide the magic of the sand dispersing beneath your finger. Instead, click and drag your mouse to create your gesture. To connect to Sandboxes worldwide, click the blue button below the simulation.

You may witness the Sandboxes' abstract communication on one screen by launching two Sandboxes and connecting both to the Sandbox Network. Warning: this may bog down slow computers.

technical assistance

To experience the virtual Sandbox, you need a high-bandwidth Internet connection, and you must be running a Java and javascript-enabled web browser. To get the free Java download, click here. If your javascript is not already enabled, you may adjust this in your browser settings. If the motion of the sand appears jumpy, it will run much better on a faster computer. Running multiple Sandboxes or connecting to a busy Sandbox Network are particularly CPU-intensive. If the blue button does nothing, either the Sandbox Network is temporarily unavailable or you are sitting behind a firewall that is blocking the port the Sandbox must use to communicate; in that event, I'm sorry, please check back later, or from another location.
